@Kavik I mean, what do we do with those in our country that for one reason or another are not able to provide for themselves? we cant just let them starve and result to crime or worse yet die on the streets. They will always be people who need more help than others. some for a short time and others for the rest of their life. and I think its the responsibility of the government to take care of those people through the use our taxes. And as long as the amount of people and money used on welfare is vastly outnumbered by the amount of people who dont need it, than i think its ok we set some pennies for every dollar our taxes to go to welfare. of course, as it stands, too many people are relying on welfare and that is the result of another set of problems each of which could have its own debate forum lol

@Kavik I am sure there are problems with the welfare system in this and probably all 1st world countries. But welfare is not only necessary but good for a country. There are a lot of families that use that money to get through hard times and break the poverty cycle. I will agree that some changes should be made in order to maximize the people that actually need it and not those who abuse it. as for it makes people lazy, i dont have data to prove that wrong but I myself am an example of someone who used to benefits provided by the government (i.g free middle/high school, free lunches, university grants/loans) and now I have become a much more productive citizen and will contribute a lot more into the countries economy and taxes than I ever took out and more than I would have if I hadn't received any of those benefits in the first place. I admit its a personal anecdote, but i dont consider myself all that special so im sure there a lot of people out there who did the same as me.

In an ideal world, yeah I would be happy with everyone pay the same percentage. But unfortunately we don't live in such a world. The world we live in is one where too many people live pay check t pay check, many times due to no fault of their own. Where the top 1% own a godly amount of money when compared to their fellow countrymen, and where systemic oppression, exploitation, political corruption, pass down wealth, lobbying, and many other systems make it so that the rich keep getting richer and the rest stay in the low to low middle class.

@Kavik So after doing some surface research it seems that although it is true that they pay most of the income tax, when we account for all sorts of taxes, local, state, federal, payroll, transaction etc, the distribution is more spread out. and the percentage is just barely progressive (meaning you pay slightly higher the more you make). Additionally, I would say that no, we should not live in a country were everyone pays the same. A household that makes six figures is able to pay a higher tax percentage without significantly lowering their living standard. unlike people in the lower classes.

I disagree. His tax cuts for the rich, reducing or cutting funding for many important government agencies, gutting the ACA are just some things i can think of that are bad for this country.
