Not every woman is ready to have a baby, not every woman is in the right financial situation, but most importantly, not every woman is ready to carry another human being in her body for nine months. Abortion is not murder, for the first twenty-four (in some cases twenty) weeks the fetus is not yet formed, this means they are just cells without a brain or a heart.
If abortion is made illegal this does not mean that abortions will no longer exist but it does mean that they will be done surreptitiously by methods that are dangerous to the body and even more painful, methods that can put the woman at risk. Making abortion illegal will also mean preventing raped girls from being able to have a happy and right childhood; in general for victims of abuse, abortion must remain an option. Most women do not want to carry their abuser's child; it will remind them of a trauma from which they will never heal. Let's say a ten-year-old girl was abused and became pregnant, would you want her to give birth? Would you let her go through that hell to “save” something that is not even formed yet?
Women who get pregnant and are not in the right situation to raise a child, would you prevent her from being in a better situation just for some cells?
If pregnancy is risky for the woman's body would you let her die? There are so many situations where abortion can save and help the woman and should be a right not something to be prevented, even more so by a man. The man is not the one who will go through pregnancy trauma, he is not the one who may have postpartum depression, and he is not the one whose body may be put at risk. The man may have the opinion but the final decision will be made by the woman and if abortion is banned she will probably resort to dangerous methods. We have to ask ourselves why the woman comes to decide to have an abortion, this is not a game and if the woman decides to have an abortion it means that she will not be able to take care of the baby or she is not ready for a pregnancy and no there is no “you can give it up for adoption” option, in nine months of pregnancy the woman can have complicament, she can be sick and she can also “get attached” to this thing even if she is not ready (it is not really attached but the fact of giving away something that you have grown inside your body for months).
Abortion should be an option that the woman can have and is a right.
Abortion should be legal.
